1ST NGO COORDINATION MEETING

Sanglah Hospital – 19th October 2002
 

Following the results of the coordination meeting between all volunteer associations

Saturday October 19, 2002:
  • Concerning needs for the immediate future
  • Details of what has been done since Tuesday October 15, 2002 to help those suffering because of the Legian Tragedy on October 12, 2002.
NEEDS:
  1. RELATIVES OF DECEASED
    1. Family Counseling
    2. Wives / Widows / Employment
    3. Continuing education of children left homeless
  2. INJURED VICTIMS
    1. Counseling
    2. Rehabilitation / re-schooling
    3. Post Surgery (Plastic)
    4. Repatriation
  3. FAMILY OF INJURED VICTIMS
    1. Transportation goals
    2. Food
    3. Lodging
  4. VOLOUNTEERS
    1. Debriefing
    2. Physical check-up of victims
    3. Counseling (trauma)
  5. HOSPITAL
    1. Upgrading crisis MGT
    2. Renovation morgue
    3. Upgrading hygiene facilities, Human Resources
Following lists of groups that have given donations and support,
And will be continuing to do so:

Rotary Bali Crisis

  • Donations for children's education
  • Free scholarship for children
  • Trauma therapy for everyone
IMC-NGO-USAID
  • Available, 40 Doctors
  • 3 Psychiatrists for local volunteers and victims
  • 1 Expatriate psychiatrist from Australia for foreign volunteers
  • Available to burn victims – hand specialist from San Francisco, USA
  • EMS program for local authority to prepare for a long term crisis / disaster center
  • Specialist surgical equipment from SF
  • Has resources +/- 250 American staffs in Indonesia
  • Budget: no ceiling US$ 30.000 for training in the Hospitals (6)
BIWA
  • Priority education for victim's children
  • rehabilitation of injured people HP 0812 380 0490
KEMANUSIAN
Improving medical facilities in Bali Indonesia:
  • Burn center / plastic surgery
  • Training / changing program
  • Providing scholarship programs

  • Improve facilities of hospitals on a long term basis with a future plan (build a hospital)

  • Needs, assessments, counseling at Sanglah, assisting families

  • Doing data base for victims at ground zero location
  • Helping families of the victims
  • Have 10 educational programs
  • Library for English schooling
  • Prime goal being funding for all programs

  • Got lots of response from situation
  • Set up fund raising – funds to be collected for medical facilities and funds for locals and tourists.
  • Prepared to design anything required for hospital architecture

Recent, concerning present disaster:
  • Collecting funds for current Emergency situation
  • Has emergency volunteers, students, already gathering data, helping victim evacuation from private hospitals to Sanglah
  • Counseling Indonesian families for immediate needs
  • Delivering food to families of victims in Sanglah and providing food for volunteers
  • Gathering data for Bali SOS Center
Private sector 300.000 Australian dollars medical assistance available.

  • representing the chief of Kuta, all banjars involved
  • preparing new zoning plan
  • immediate clearing of ground zero
  • immediate food program for locals that lived at bomb site
  • planning of major cremation and cleansing/contemplation ceremony for 21 Nov
  • needs urgently all data base info from other other Associations
  • Urged close cooperation with locals, pointing out cultural differences to be respected. They DO NOT have funds!!!
  • Need planning of reconstruction of 13 banjars of Legian Kuta, preparing cost estimation with the locals involved.
  • Available 1800 pages of data.
  • Program must adhere to principals of locals. Must be careful to not offend them
  • And respect tradition.
  • Will have meeting with Governor of Bali.
  • Pointed out that elections are in 2004 and to avoid disturbing government policies.

Also pointed out in the meeting was the necessity of publishing in local newspaper a list of all credible, valid volunteer groups.
Next meeting will be on Tuesday 3.00 PM at Sanglah
